- Internships
Researchers in the Smithsonian Genetics Program are looking for a graduate or undergraduate student interested in behavioral ecology and/or evolutionary genetics. Specifically, the student will help characterize immune system genes of the major histocompatibility (MHC) complex in wild and captive African and Asian elephants. The student will work in collaboration with a postdoc and head scientist over the course of the spring semester. We can pay a small stipend or give course credit and anticipate that the student will be an author on resulting publications. The ideal candidate will be able to spend 1 or 2 days/wk (10-20 hrs) working in the genetics lab at the National Zoo, be reliable and motivated, have genetics lab experience, OR have a strong interest in learning genetics lab techniques. If you’re interested or want a more detailed description of the project, please email your resume or CV to Beth Archie.
