Dr. Forkner's research has included studies of social spiders in tropical Mexico, Lepidoptera in tropical forest canopies of Belize, ants in coastal and sub-tropical habitats, moths in logged and hurricane-damaged temperate and sub-tropical ecosystems, and desert and forest-dwelling beetles. She has a background in entomology and in anti-oxidant chemistry and plans to conduct research in both plant-insect biochemical interactions and restoration of native Virginia Lepidoptera populations.
