Dr. Gillevet has been the lead scientist at the Environmental Biocomplexity and Ecology group at George Mason University since 1996. This group focuses on using state of the art molecular techniques to study problems in Molecular Environmental Sciences and Genomic Evolution. Prior to joining Mason, he worked in molecular evolution projects as a Post Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from 1982 to 1988. He was the Technical Director of the Center for Prokaryotic Genome Analysis at the University of Illinois from 1988 to 1990. He was the Director of the Harvard Genome Laboratory at Harvard University from 1990 to 1993 that focused on the sequencing of Mycoplasma capricolum. He established an integrated Fluorescent sequencing facility at the National Center for Human Genome Research from 1993 to 1996. He teaches courses in Molecular Environmental Biology, Molecular Evolution, and Bioinformatics.
