Dr. Kysar Mattietti’s research expertise is igneous petrology, which has been informed by her previous work in geophysics. She joined the ESP faculty 2002 to teach Geology courses and to coordinate introductory level classes. Since 2005, she has also been employed by the Office of the Provost’s Center for Teaching Excellence to enhance the undergraduate scientific teaching and learning experiences at Mason. Prior to joining Mason, she worked at the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology and the US Department of Mineral Sciences of the Museum of Natural History and was involved in projects concerning petrology, volcanology, and museum exhibits.
