ESP PhD student Serda Ozbenian receives Fulbright grant
Serda Ozbenian, a doctoral student and MS alumna of the Environmental Science and Policy program at George Mason University, has been awarded a grant through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program to conduct research in 2014-15 in Armenia. Serda is a student of Dr. Chris Parsons in ESP, and the second ESP graduate student to receive a 2014 Fulbright award. Her research in Armenia will focus on wildlife conservation issues in Armenia, and specifically on human-wildlife conflict with threatened large carnivore species in rural areas of that country. As part of her Fulbright research, Serda will work with the American University of Armenia’s Acopian Center for the Environment to conduct the first non-invasive population surveys of the gray wolf and brown bear in Armenia.
Serda is one of two ESP students to be awarded a Fulbright grant this year! Ryan Richards also received a 2014 Fulbright award. Congratulations to the both of them!
