Presenting research that helps change dolphin welfare policy in Mexico

ESP associate professor Chris Parsons was invited to talk to members of the Chamber of Deputies (the Mexican Government’s equivalent of the House of Representatives) in Mexico City recently. Prof. Parsons discussed science and and policy issues relating to the welfare of whales and dolphins in captivity, and presented information from a new study by himself and ESP graduate student Whitney Naylor. As a result of compelling presentations by Prof. Parsons and other colleagues, the Deputies at the meeting have come together to work on a tri-partisan bill to improve the welfare of whales and dolphins in captivity in Mexican facilities.
